Thinking of attending graduate school?

The decision to attend graduate school will be a major milestone in your life. Committing the required resources - time, money, effort - reflects your love of learning and desire to contribute to the world of knowledge.

But what should be considered and what actions need be taken to attain this goal? Our hope is that this website to be a source of information and inspiration.

The path to pursuing graduate school can begin on your first day as an undergraduate, but it doesn't need to.  This site will help you determine where you are located on the "Attending Graduate School Timeline" - areas where you are "on schedule" and areas where you might need to do some "catching up."

Let's get started!

step one: Visualize

Maybe you are asking yourself,  "Am I graduate school material?"

Well, look at the short biographies on this page and see what a UH Manoa graduate student looks like!

Graduate students are diverse, but one thing they all have in common  is the love of learning.

What you can't see just may be the most important criterion - personal qualities.

Reflect for a moment - what is driving you to pursue graduate studies and then click on the "Personality Traits" button to see some of those qualities graduate schools often desire to see in their student candidates.

Also, please note that this website does NOT cover professional schools (e.g. medical and law), as preparation for these types of schools differ from graduate schools.
